Children's Privacy Policy for Ages 5-12

1. Introduction

Rookwise is a youth baseball learning application designed for children ages 5-12, operated by AI Lattice LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting the privacy of children who use our service and complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA").

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to parents and guardians regarding their children's information.

3. Account Structure: Parent-Managed Accounts

Rookwise uses a Parent-Managed Account model to ensure children never directly provide personal information:

Parent Account: An adult creates an account with a verified email address and owns any subscription.
Child Profiles: Parents create one or more child profiles under their account. Children do not create their own accounts.
Session Flow: A parent logs in, selects a child profile, and then the child can play.
Data Ownership: Parents can view, export, or delete any child's data at any time.

4. Information We Collect

4.1 Information from Parents

When a parent creates an account, we collect:

Email address — for account verification and communication
Password — stored in encrypted form
Payment information — processed by third-party payment processors; we do not store card numbers
Consent records — timestamp, IP address, and policy version accepted

4.2 Information About Children

When a parent creates a child profile, the parent provides:

Display name — a nickname chosen by the parent (not the child's real name)
Age tier — 5-7, 8-10, or 11-12 (not the child's exact birth date)
Preferred positions — optional, for personalized scenarios
Experience level — optional, for difficulty calibration

4.3 Gameplay Data

As children use Rookwise, we automatically collect:

Scenario responses and completion status
XP earned and level progression
Session timestamps and duration
Feature usage patterns (anonymized)

4.4 Information We Do NOT Collect from Children

We never collect the following from children:

Email addresses
Real names (first name, last name, or full name)
Phone numbers
Physical addresses
Exact birth dates
Photos, videos, or audio recordings
Precise geolocation (GPS coordinates)
Persistent device identifiers (advertising IDs)
Social media account information

5. How We Use Information

5.1 To Provide the Service

Deliver age-appropriate baseball scenarios
Track progress and award XP
Personalize difficulty based on skill level
Enable parents to monitor their child's learning

5.2 To Improve Rookwise

Analyze anonymized, aggregated gameplay patterns
Identify which scenarios are most effective
Fix bugs and improve app performance

5.3 To Communicate with Parents

Send account verification emails
Provide subscription and billing notifications
Share optional progress reports (if parent opts in)
Notify of material changes to this Privacy Policy

6. Information Sharing and Disclosure

6.1 We Do NOT Sell Children's Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade any personal information about children to third parties for marketing or any other purpose.

6.2 Service Providers

We share limited information with service providers who help us operate Rookwise:

All service providers are contractually bound to use data only for providing services to us and to maintain appropriate security measures.

6.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, such as in response to a valid subpoena or court order, or to protect the safety of our users.

6.4 Business Transfers

If AI Lattice LLC is acquired or merged with another company, user data may be transferred. We will notify parents before any such transfer and provide an opportunity to delete data.

7. Third-Party Services

7.1 What We Use

Rookwise uses limited third-party services, none of which collect personal information from children:

Firebase Authentication — for parent account login only
Google Cloud Platform — for secure data storage
Push Notifications — delivered to parent devices only

7.2 What We Do NOT Use

Rookwise does not include:

Third-party advertising networks
Behavioral advertising or ad tracking
Social media plugins or SDKs
Third-party analytics that track children

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

All data transmitted using TLS/SSL encryption
Passwords stored using secure hashing algorithms
Access controls limiting employee access to user data
Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
Child data logically separated from parent account data

9. Data Retention

Active accounts: We retain data as long as the account is active.
Deleted profiles: When a parent deletes a child profile, all associated data is permanently deleted within 30 days.
Deleted accounts: When a parent deletes their account, all data (including all child profiles) is permanently deleted within 30 days.
Consent records: Retained for 3 years after account deletion as required by COPPA.

10. Parental Rights

As a parent or guardian, you have the following rights under COPPA:

10.1 Review Your Child's Information

You can view all information associated with your child's profile at any time through the app's Settings menu.

10.2 Request Data Export

You can request a complete export of your child's data by emailing privacy@rookwise.app or using the "Export Data" feature in Settings. We will provide the data within 30 days.

10.3 Delete Your Child's Information

You can delete your child's profile and all associated data at any time through the app. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

10.4 Refuse Further Collection

You may refuse to permit further collection of your child's information by deleting their profile. Note that this will prevent your child from using Rookwise.

10.5 Withdraw Consent

You may withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your child's profile or your entire account.

11. Leaderboard Privacy

11.1 Default Settings

Child profiles are not displayed on leaderboards by default. Parents must explicitly opt-in through profile settings.

11.2 Information Displayed

If a parent opts their child into leaderboards, only the following is shown:

Display name (the nickname, not real name)
XP score
Current level
Rank position

The following is never displayed:

Age or age tier
Email
Location
Activity timestamps

12. Coach Features

12.1 Team Sharing

If a parent chooses to connect their child to a coach's team, limited progress data may be shared with the coach. This requires explicit parent opt-in for each child.

12.2 Shared Information

When enabled, coaches can see:

Display name
XP and level
Mastery percentages by category
Recent activity (last 7 days)

Coaches cannot see gameplay details, session timestamps, or any parent account information.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes to how we collect or use children's information, we will:

Email all registered parents at least 30 days before the changes take effect
Require parents to re-consent before their children can continue using Rookwise
Post the updated policy at https://rookwise.app/privacy

Non-material changes (such as formatting or clarifications) will be posted without advance notice.

14. California Privacy Rights

California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). However, COPPA-regulated data is exempt from certain CCPA provisions. For questions about California privacy rights, contact privacy@rookwise.app.

15. International Users

Rookwise is operated in the United States. If you are accessing Rookwise from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States.
